A week of Beaumont concerts

We’re not gonna lie to you: Some weeks, especially in the summer, get awfully quiet around here. And by quiet, we mean boring.

This is not one of those weeks.

Here are a few of our favorite acts visiting this week from Austin, China and, in one case, some sort of bizarro Japanese space-future:

John Evans and Jesse Dayton
Genre: Rockabilly/Americana/singer-songwriter
These two Austin rockers have strong Beaumont ties — Dayton is from here and Evans was, once upon a time, a quarterback for Lamar — and the two play listening room Courville’s on Thursday to release a new album they’ve been working on together.

They’ve both written for Americana star Hayes Carll and have a laundry list of impressive collaborations under their belt: Waylon, Kinky, Willie. The list goes on. You’ll want to hang onto every lyric and twang of this show — and since you’re at Courville’s, where talking during the show is severely frowned upon, that will be nice and easy.
When: 7 p.m. Thursday
Where: Courville’s, 1744 Rose Lane
Cost: $30; bigrich@cajunflavors.com

Neon Trees
Genre: Electronic indie pop
Believe it or not, summer is fixin’ to wind down and L’Auberge is only throwing four more Liquid Society parties, hosted out back at their epic pool. This year’s lineup has been pretty impressive.

This week, take that pop music-lovin’ girl of yours over to Louisiana to see Neon Trees. Have her throw on some wedge heels and sequins and dance the night away.

Coming up on the Liquid Society stage: Better Than Ezra on July 31 and Weezer on Aug. 14. You’ll wanna grab tickets in advance for those dates.
When: 8:30 p.m. Thursday
Where: L’Auberge du Lac Hotel and Casino, 777 Avenue L’Auberge, Lake Charles
Cost: $31; ticketmaster.com

Mayeux & Broussard
Genre: Alt country/blues/rock
Another Austin band with Southeast Texas roots, Mayeux & Broussard is one of those great Texas bands with appeal across a wide spectrum of listeners. Whether you’re into indie rock, filthy blues or — sigh — Nashville pop country, you’ll dig this high-energy show.

Austin folk rocker and “The Voice” contestant Brian Pounds is also on the bill.
When: 9 p.m. Friday
Where: Madison’s, 4020 Dowlen Road, Beaumont
Cost: $7

Andy Dale Petty
Genre: Folk/American primitive/country
Alabama guitar-picker Andy Dale Petty blends classic folk with warbly vocals and a little country gloom to put on the kind of show that’s great for a listening room like the Logon.

This bill is rounded out by two Beaumont bands that are fast becoming our favorite local artists this year: gristly-voiced folk singer-songwriter Cody Schaeffer and Barelands, a three-piece featuring sweet folk
country sounds and vintage blueshound Silas Feemster on the ever-haunting lap steel.
When: 8 p.m. Friday
Where: The Logon Cafe, 3805 Calder Ave., Beaumont
Cost: $5

Daikaiju
Genre: Instrumental thrash surf rock
Last time the Japanese Kabuki-inspired surf rock band Daikaiju played Beaumont, the band played on top of their tour van, which they drove inside the now-defunct Pure Vibes warehouse on Calder. And did we mention that their drum kit was on fire?

This is undoubtedly one of the craziest shows you’ll see in this town — and this time around, the band that describes itself as “Premium action heroes deliver most high rocket music!” will play the Texas Rose Saloon.

Local band the Ron Jeremies and Shanghai doo wop/punk band Round Eye will open. We hope the Rose is still standing when this show’s through.
When: 8 p.m. Tuesday
Where: Texas Rose Saloon, 2013 S. MLK Jr., Beaumont
Cost: $5
